Homing the APF TelescopeΒΆ

This is the procedure for homing telescope by hand. It is best homing is done via the command home_telescope on an APF Linux host such as mainz.

  1. Turn off the fans on level 2 and level 3.

  2. Turn off the recirculation fans 1 and 2.

  3. If doing this remotely, turn on the dome interior lights and turn on Polycom

  4. Reset emergency software stop

  5. Enable azimuth power

  6. Open the mirror covers.

  7. Disable the telescope

  8. Home via the home button - MONITOR the secondary actuators - hit stop if they run away.

  9. When all components are homed, reported as homed on EOST telescope engineering page,

    the procedure is done.

  10. Park the Telescope, wait for the elevation, azimuth and secondary to finish parking. The secondary park position is near 7 million encoder counts.

  11. Close the mirror covers

  12. Turn off azimuth power

  13. Engage emergency software stop

  14. Turn on the fans on level 2 and level 3.

  15. Turn on the recirculation fans 1 and 2.

  16. If doing this remotely, turn off the dome interior lights and turn off Polycom
